These Kandil are major religious evenings, when the country's mosques are illuminated by candles (traditionally on the minarets) throughout the night and the faithful pray for forgiveness and to see the right path of true belief. The Kandil Simidi are sold by bakeries and confectioners throughout Turkey and feature prominently in the table spread.
